Contexte et objectifs de la mission de stage :

The Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite will be launched in 2021 to provide measurements of the Sea Surface Topography at an unprecedented resolution of 1 km. For various operational applications, the SWOT community is preparing the assimilation of SWOT data into ocean circulation models. The assimilation of SWOT data will present challenges never faced before, because they come in form of images (instead of lines in existing nadir-viewing altimetry) and with a spatial resolution about 10 times higher than historical data.

The goal of the internship is to implement and experiment innovative data assimilation techniques recently developed in IGE/MEOM group and specifically designed for SWOT. This work carries a huge potential for future operational applications. The detailed work plan will be established with the candidate consistently with the project advances.
