Operationalizing transformative research in mountain regions : The experience of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mountain Research (University of Lausanne)”
The Interdisciplinary Centre for Mountain Research (ICMR) is a 4-year pilot project of the University of Lausanne (UNIL) launched in 2018.
Its goal is to provide a scientific ground for sustainability policies in mountain regions, with an emphasis on transformation. With about 75 researchers from 5 faculties, and 9 associated institutions working in mountain research and dissemination, the ICMR is steered by a board composed of UNIL’s researchers and the communities of two Swiss cantons (Vaud and Valais).
Research focuses on a set of topics related to climate and global change impacts on mountains and potential solutions. An effort is also made to advance our understanding of inter- and transdisciplinary research prospects in mountain regions. The presentation will provide an overview of the ICMR’s approach and activities.

Iago Otero has a PhD in Environmental Sciences. He is the coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mountain Research since November 2018.
